Acupuncture for Women's Health

How Acupuncture Can Enhance Women's Health

The origins of acupuncture have their roots in China from at least several thousand years ago. This makes acupuncture one of the most time-honored systems of healing in the world. It is safe, minimally invasive and drug-free. Best of all, it works with the body’s own healing energies for optimal health and wellness.

Acupuncture works on the meridian system of the body. This is a network of energy channels that run throughout the limbs and torso with correlating acupuncture points located close to the skin. There are 14 meridians in all, and each of them corresponds with an organ or system of the body. When one or more of these meridians or channels becomes out of balance, illness and dis-ease can result. A skilled acupuncturist often knows immediately what meridian(s) are out of balance based upon the health issues a person is presenting.

Optimal Energy Flow is Essential For Heath

Acupuncture is the practice of using extremely fine needles to help restore optimal balance within this energy system. The acupuncturist is well versed in how this system works and how illness can manifest related to their imbalance. The acupuncture needles are skillfully placed at specific points in the body to help restore the optimal flow of “chi,” or life force energy. With an ideal energy flow, stagnant energy can be released and the problem can then resolve at a deep level.

Acupuncture has grown in acceptance in the West in the past couple of decades and is even now covered by many insurance policies. It can be used as a standalone healing modality, a tool for maintaining wellness and also in conjunction with Western medicine. It is also highly effective when used in combination with chiropractic care, massage therapy, herbs, supplements and focused dietary changes.

Acupuncture is most commonly used to treat a range of diseases and conditions that include the following:

  • Headaches
  • Respiratory Issues
  • Colds and Flu
  • Allergies
  • Digestive Issues
  • Muscle pain
  • Stress
  • Mood Disorders
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Addictions
  • Sleep Issues/Insomnia

It is also effective for a number of women’s health and wellness issues, including the following:

  • PMS
  • Menstrual Cramps
  • Endometriosis
  • Fertility Issues
  • Gynecological Disorders
  • Menopause
  • Morning Sickness

Numerous clinical studies as well as anecdotal reports have shown the effectiveness of acupuncture in these key areas of women’s health. Women who are trying to conceive and become pregnant are particularly heartened to hear that this is an option if they are having trouble becoming pregnant. While it is not 100% effective, acupuncture has assisted many couples in correcting the energy imbalance behind fertility issues.

In addition to treating the energetic problem within the affected meridians, acupuncture also brings the following additional wellness benefits:

Natural Pain Relief. The insertion of the fine needles initiate the body’s endorphin response. These hormones are the body’s natural pain killers and can bring immediate relief for discomfort.

Improved Mood. In addition to the relief of physical pain, the release of endorphins by acupuncture can also help to elevate the emotional state and mood. Even if an emotional issue is not being treated, it can bring this additional benefit regardless.

Anti-Inflammatory Effects. In addition to endorphins, the body’s natural anti-inflammatory agents are triggered as well. The release of these and other hormones contribute to restoring balance to the body and promoting biochemical harmony and well being.
