Back Pain

Back Pain Treatment

More than 31 million individuals suffer from lower back pain each day, and many of those individuals opt to take high doses of prescription pain pills to numb the pain. Unfortunately, medications do not treat the root cause of lower back pain, and when the medication wears off, the pain returns. Here at Optimal Health Chiropractic and Massage Clinic, we offer upper, mid and lower back pain treatments that are designed to heal the underlying causes of your back pain.

Causes of Lower Back Pain

While back pain can be caused by serious, debilitating illnesses and diseases, most lower back pain is caused by an injury to the discs, vertebrae, ligaments, tendons or muscles. The most common causes of back pain include, slipped, herniated or ruptured discs, muscle pulls, tendon strains, sciatica, being overweight, having weak core muscles and not maintaining proper posture while sitting and standing.

Chiropractic Treatment Options for Lower Back Pain

Chiropractic care is a safe, conservative, non-invasive form of treatment for lower back pain, and it is very cost effective when compared to other traditional forms of treatment. Lower back pain treatment typically starts with chiropractic adjustments for pain relief and to lower reliance on potentially habit-forming prescription pain pills.

Minor misalignments in the vertebrae interrupt the signals sent to and from your brain via your central nervous system, which results in localized and widespread back pain. Misalignments also affect the tendons, muscles and ligaments in your back and can cause incorrect movements of the spine, resulting in slipped discs and strains and sprains. Manual adjustments restore the proper alignment of your vertebrae, decrease back pain and inflammation and allow true healing to take place.

Massage therapy, proper nutrition, diet and exercise and corrective exercises are also useful at reducing lower back pain and healing old and new injuries. Massage therapy is great for relaxing the body and mind, improving circulation and oxygenation of the muscles and reducing overall body pain. Eating a diet rich in micro and macronutrients ensures that your body has the fuel it needs to regenerate on a cellular level, and losing weight through diet and exercise reducing the pressure exerted on your spine. Corrective exercises help strengthen your core muscles, which are responsible for providing spinal stabilization.

Here at Optimal Health Chiropractic and Massage, we offer all of these services to help heal your injuries and reduce your back pain. We typically use a three-pronged approach. Our first goal is to reduce the amount of pain you feel on a daily basis. Our second goal is to facilitate the healing of your injuries, and the last step involves preventing future injuries and helping you maintain your health so that you can lead and active and full life without relying on potentially habit forming medications.
