Muscle Pain

Muscles cover our bodies and are the primary way we control movement in our bodies. Each person has over 600 muscles that contract and expand to control every movement, from smiling to sprinting.

The more we strain a muscle with work or stretching it is not accustomed to, the more pain and irritation it will cause us. Unheeded or untreated pain can lead to more severe pain and injury that becomes increasingly more difficult to treat effectively. At Optimal Health, we diagnose your muscle pain and use a combination of methods to improve your health and healing.

Causes of Muscle Pain

Muscle pain can come from a number of diseases, injuries, accidents or workouts. Some of the most common diseases that present symptoms of muscle pain can be helped with chiropractic care, including fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis. Car accidents also cause many muscle injuries, such as whiplash and back spasms, that need immediate treatment to reduce debilitating pain. Sports injuries frequently cause muscle sprains (shoulder, ankle, back) and tears, requiring attention for speeding the recovery process. Other injuries, such as a fall down the stairs or a physical altercation, could also lead to muscle injury that requires treatment from your chiropractor.

Determining the Underlying Cause

Our treatments are not a one-size-fits-all solution – we have to truly understand your condition to provide you with the right treatment and rehabilitation plan for you. Your chiropractor will do a physical examination and take x-rays to determine the problem areas and how they will be best addressed. You will likely be presented with a plan that includes multiple therapies over a set period of time. For bad injuries, we might want to see you frequently at first (to jumpstart the healing process) and then progress over time until you are down to once a month visits and eventually complete your therapy.

Massage Therapy with Chiropractic Adjustment

We have found a great benefit in combining spinal adjustment with massage. We believe that proper alignment makes you less prone to injury and able to heal faster. By making sure your spine is adjusted to the right curve, we also make sure your hips are aligned and your neck can function in a healthy way with good posture.

Massage therapy is then paired with this to help your muscles relax and reduce the tension that is pulling your body the wrong way. Muscle massage naturally prevents the forming of compounds that cause inflammation and simultaneously increases the stimulation of the mitochondria to help with cell function and repair in the area.

Your Edmonds Chiropractor

Most doctors treat pain with anti-inflammation drugs that simply slow the healing process entirely in their attempt to reduce inflammation. Pain killers only mask the symptoms and do not treat the underlying cause. If you are ready to find a natural solution that works to truly heal you, call us today. We are ready to get you on the fast track to recovery!
